On Friday 6th June, Salop Design & Engineering Ltd had another successful visit from pupils from Meole Brace Science College in Shrewsbury. The aim of the visits is to show young people what is involved in Engineering and Manufacturing today, and to show them that the lessons they are learning at school will stand them in good stead for any career they see fit to pursue.
Director, Christopher Greenough, made ties with Meole Brace School 18 months ago, and since then the momentum has grown. The start of the visit was a meet and greet, where Christopher had arranged for local Councillor Jon Tandy, and Shropshire Live Web Magazine Editor Chris Pritchard to say a few words and take some pictures.
There was then a Shop Floor tour, before moving on to a Maths and measurement session in the Quality Department. The pupils got hands on, with Automotive pressed parts, and did some MSA measurement studies, were taught how to read Engineering drawings and gained an insight into how a busy Manufacturing site is run.
Christopher said The feedback from all involved today has been great, I have plans for more visits and the enthusiasm that the pupils have shown today is something that we need to harness for the future.
