Salop Design & Engineering apprentice Alex Malam has been named the July winner of the UK Manufacturing Apprentice.
Alex was shown to be a fantastic role model to other apprentices and deservedly picked up the £100 Amazon Vouchers as a reward.
After studying A Levels at his local school, he decided to to train to be an engineer as he was not engaged or enthused by his current education. Since changing to the vocational route, he has not looked back. Alex now helps promote the apprenticeship scheme for Salop Design by joining the team at shows and schools careers events.
After accepting the prize, Alex said: ‘I am happy to have won this award and would like to thank my peers at Salop Design for their mentoring over the years. I really enjoy working at Salop as every day is different and there are new challenges and problems to be solved. I am looking forward to what the future has to offer’.
Alex was nominated for the award by Commercial Director, Chris Greenough, who said of the award “We are thrilled that Alex has won this month’s prize, it is very well deserved, as he has shown enthusiasm and hard work over his time with us. He is now working on projects and will continue to learn and use his skills. Alex is a practical thinker, a pleasant young man, and a real star for the future.”

The national apprentice competition has been launched to find and recognise the very best apprentices currently working within the UK manufacturing industry. The initiative has been set up AMI, a web design & marketing agency that specialises in supporting UK manufacturing companies.
