Last nights annual Mayoral awards recognised those who have made an outstanding contribution to the town, from businesses to individuals. They were personally thanked by Mayor Jon Tandy.
And the event was also a chance for him to bid a fond farewell as he prepares to stand down at the end of this week.
The ceremony was an emotional night for many, as several posthumous awards were announced.Helen Ball, town clerk for Shrewsbury Town Council, hosted the event and said it was important to take the opportunity to say thank you.
Several firms were awarded gold in the business category, including White 7 and the late Mr Galliers. Speaking of Mr Galliers, who was a tycoon and the inspiration behind the popular River Festival, Mrs Ball said: He could not contain the passion he had for the town of his birth and he gave so much to Shrewsbury.
Overall winner was Salop Design and Engineering. Mrs Ball said: This is a family-run firm going back to 1960. It has gone from strength to strength and never stopped striving. Nor has it lost that essence of Shrewsbury and is incredibly dedicated to the town.
